If you were unfortunate enough to have gotten grease on your carpets, you’re likely aware of just how stubborn the mess can be. Grease is notoriously difficult to remove from carpet fibres, which is why most people throw their hands in the air and decide to live with the unsightly blemish.
All hope is not lost, however. There is a helpful home remedy that you can employ that may finally get rid of that grease spot once and for all. Read on to learn what you need to do to restore your carpeting.
The Baking Soda Method
Not just for use in the kitchen, baking soda is a wonderful tool to use in your fight against pesky grease stains. This is because baking soda works to absorb grease. Even better, baking soda won’t cause your carpeting to stain after use.
What’s more, it’s cheap, effective, safe for family and pets, and a breeze to use. To employ this method, start by scraping off as much grease as you can with a dull knife. We’re assuming the grease has had plenty of time to dry, so this part should be much easier.
Once you’ve done so, pour a generous amount of baking soda over the remaining grease. This will start the process of absorption. Next, use an old toothbrush or utility brush to gently but firmly work in the baking soda.
Allow the baking soda to settle for about 15 minutes, then run your vacuum over it. After picking up all of the absorbed particles, pour a little dishwashing liquid and warm water over the remaining grease and work it in with your brush.
Finally, use a sponge to pick up the rest of the soap and water. Depending on the severity of the grease spot, you might have to repeat this method more than once to get the results you’re looking for.
